About Jeff Hayes

Jeff Hayes has 31 years experience of turning good steel businesses into great steel businesses.

Jeff got his start in 1981 at Crown Tanks, a small portable oilfield tank manufacturer located in Ventura, CA, where he learned all phases of the tank business.

In 1982 Jeff became the steel shop foreman at Rol-Air Inc., of Ventura, CA, a manufacturer of air film systems that were distributed all over the world.

In 1984 Jeff went to work at Trico Welding in Ventura, CA, and was soon promoted to General Manager in charge of all operations including erection, fabrication, sales, purchasing, estimating, and human resources. Jeff was instrumental in increasing Trico Welding’s sales by a factor of 5 and in increasing profits by a factor of 8 over a 3 year period. This status was maintained until Jeff moved to Spokane, WA in 1993.

In 1993 Jeff joined Red Iron Corporation (later to become Brooklyn Iron Works) in Spokane, WA as Plant Manager in charge of all shop operations as well as shipping and receiving. Jeff achieved an almost immediate 20% decrease in man hours per ton. Over the next few years Jeff was placed in charge of purchasing, estimating, sales and project management. In 2000 Jeff was offered a partnership and was promoted to Vice President of Operations. Under Jeff’s management, sales increased by a factor of 5 times from 2000 until 2007.

In 2007 Jeff sold his interest in Brooklyn Iron Works and retired. It only took a few months of retirement to realize that he was not ready for full time retirement and Jeff Hayes Coaching & Consulting, Inc. was formed.

Jeff understands every aspect of the steel business and knows what it takes to be successful in today’s steel industry.
